Tattoo Questions and Answers

Frequently asked tattoo questions

Tattoo City Suites reserves the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.

Do tattoos hurt?

Most people find tattooing more uncomfortable than painful. Pain varies depending on the location and your individual tolerance, but it's generally very manageable.

Do you use new needles?

Absolutely. Every tattoo is performed using brand-new, sterile, single-use needles and disposable supplies. All artists follow strict bloodborne pathogen training and industry sterilization standards.

How long does a tattoo take to heal?

Most tattoos heal in 2-3 weeks, although complete healing beneath the skin may take several more weeks.

How should I care for my new tattoo?

  • Leave the bandage on for about 2 hours (unless your artist gives different instructions).
  • Wash gently with warm water and fragrance-free soap using only your hands.
  • Pat dry with a clean paper towel.
  • Apply a very thin layer of Aquaphor or Tattoo Goo several times daily for about two weeks.
  • Do not scratch, pick, or peel the tattoo.
  • Avoid swimming, hot tubs, baths, tanning, and prolonged sun exposure for 2-3 weeks.
  • Keep the tattoo clean and avoid unnecessary contact with pets and gym equipment until fully healed.
  • Once healed, always use sunscreen to protect your tattoo.

Why is my tattoo peeling?

Peeling is completely normal and usually begins within the first week. It resembles a mild sunburn. Let the skin shed naturally—never pick or peel it.

Do I need an appointment?

Walk-ins are welcome when artists are available, but appointments are highly recommended.

To book:

  • Contact the artist you'd like to work with.
  • Send reference images, approximate size, placement, and whether you want color or black & gray.
  • The artist will determine whether a consultation is needed and provide a retainer amount.

Retainers:

  • Required before artwork begins.
  • Typically range from $100-$500, depending on appointment length.
  • Non-refundable but may be transferred one time with at least 72 hours' notice.

Can I bring my own design?

Absolutely. Bring sketches, photos, artwork, or online references. Our artists specialize in creating custom tattoos inspired by your ideas rather than making exact copies. Designs may be adjusted for size, placement, longevity, and overall appearance.

Can I bring my children?

This is a tattoo shop and not a daycare. You must be 18 years old with ID to be tattooed.  Please leave children at home with proper supervision. Disruptive behavior may result in being asked to leave.

We do not tattoo minors under any circumstances.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Accepted payment varies by artist so check with your artist when scheduling.

  • Cash
  • Visa
  • Mastercard
  • Discover
  • American Express
  • Debit Cards
  • Zelle
  • Venmo
  • Paypal

We do not accept checks.

How much do tattoos cost?

Tattoos start at $100.

Each independent artist sets their own rates, generally ranging from $150-$225 per hour depending on experience and style.

Accurate price quotes require seeing the design. Cost depends on:

  • Size
  • Detail
  • Placement
  • Color vs. black & gray
  • Time required

Quality tattoos are an investment, and pricing reflects the skill and craftsmanship involved.

Do you offer touch-ups?

Yes. Artists generally guarantee their own work and provide complimentary touch-ups within 6 months, provided the tattoo was properly cared for.

Touch-ups on tattoos done elsewhere are available at the artist's discretion and standard rates.

Do you do cover-ups?

Yes. We specialize in tattoo cover-ups and restorations.

Cover-ups typically require:

  • A larger design
  • Darker colors
  • Flexible design choices

In some cases, laser fading may be recommended for the best possible result.

Can I drink before my appointment?

No. Please arrive sober.

Alcohol increases bleeding, can negatively affect the tattooing process, and may impact healing. Artists will not tattoo anyone who appears intoxicated.

Is your shop wheelchair accessible?

Accessible parking is available. Please contact your artist before your appointment so accommodations can be discussed based on your specific needs.

Do you do body piercings?

No we do not, nor do we sell jewelry.
